Head of Mission of the Netherlands Representation visits PWWSD

The Head of Mission of the Netherlands Representation to the PA Mrs. Birgitta Tazelaar visited the Palestinian Working Women’s Society for Development on Wednesday. Mrs. Tazelaar met with the general director of the PWWSD Mrs. Amal Khreishe, and the coordinator for the counseling program Mrs. Suhad Abdellatif. In the meeting Mrs. Khreishe talked about the conditions of Palestinian women, and the political, economic and social challenges they face on a daily basis. She also talked about the achievements of the feminist movement and its ongoing activities to lobby the decision-makers and to open access for women to the decision-making circles. Mrs. Khreishe also talked about the amendments to the elections’ law which allowed a positive discrimination with women: the system of the “quota”. She also talked about the feminist mobilization to engage women in the ongoing agreement process between Hamas and Fateh.

Mrs. Birgitta Tazelaar who worked in the Dutch Representative Office 13 years ago talked about the changes in women’s conditions in the Palestinian Territory, and about the challenges Palestinian women suffer from. She advised to put more efforts to show the work of the feminist movement to defend women’s rights, and also the work of the PWWSD in women’s economic, political and social empowerment.

In the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue to work together in order to achieve peace and justice in the Palestinian society.
