PWWSD renounces Arrest of Journalist Israa’ Salhab

The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development denounced the continuing Israeli arrest of the Jerusalemite journalist Israa Salhab for the 5^th day on the row. PWWSD considers the arrest of Salahb who works for Al-Quds TV channel, a dangerous escalation by the Israeli occupation against the residents of Jerusalem.

PWWSD stresses that the arrest is a naked violation of the international laws and the humanitarian values. It is a critical indicator of the constant Israeli suppression of Palestinian freedoms, among a deafening international silence. Therefore, everyone has to put huge efforts to protect journalists and force the occupation to release them.

Israa Salhab is a mother of two children. Her husband Shadi Zahdeh was also arrested by the Israeli occupation three weeks ago, after a raid at their house in Al-Joz neighborhood in Jerusalem. PWWSD pointed out that the arrest falls under the Israeli policies to terrorize journalists, in attempt to stop them from spreading the truth, especially the reality of what is happening in Jerusalem. 

PWWSD calls upon all international human rights organizations to pressure Israel to instantly release Mrs. Salhab, as her arrest contradicts the International Law conventions, which criminalize the kidnap and arrest of journalists.
